Get ready for our 27th Annual City-Wide Garage Sale April 30th – May 1st!
February 2021 Update – After much discussion between the Batavia Fireworks committee, we have made the decision to resume the annual Batavia City Wide Garage Sale. Due to the rollout of vaccines and wide spread safety protocols in place we feel that we can safely have the City Wide Garage Sale while still protecting the health of our Batavia community. Hosts and shoppers should wear face masks, use hand sanitizer, and socially distance themselves from others while visiting sales.
Covid-19 has prevented the Batavia Fireworks Committee from having any fundraisers since late fall, 2019. PLEASE STRONGLY CONSIDER donating to the Fireworks Committee Fund by hosting a garage sale this Spring through this application process.
The City-Wide Garage Sale is celebrating its 27th anniversary this year and it will be our biggest one yet. What once started with 25 sales has now blossomed into a yearly tradition where the residents of Batavia come together to Spring clean and sell their stuff on the first weekend in May. This fundraiser is one of the biggest events that the volunteers of the Batavia Fireworks Committee host each year to help raise the funds to put on Batavia’s 4th of July Sky Concert in Engstrom Park. In honor of this tradition and its 25+ years of success, we are hoping for a record garage sale year. Our goal is to have at least 250 garage and/or yard sales registered for this unique Batavia event.

SPRING CLEAN-UP FOR IN TOWN AVILLA RESIDENTS ONLY
SATURDAY, MAY 22, 2021
ITEMS NEED TO BE AT THE CURB BY 6:00 AM
Noble County Disposal will be picking up items again this year. They will start at 6:00 am and continue until all items are hauled. They will make one trip down your street and will not pick up in the alleys. They will not backtrack for anyone who does not have their items out in time. Scavenging of piles has always been a problem and makes their job harder than it should be. Any piles that have been scavenged through and made a real mess will be left behind. It is not their responsibility to clean up home owner’s yards.
Please do not put items at the curb more than one (1) week before clean-up day.
ITEMS THAT WILL BE PICKED UP:
Appliances without Freon – (washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwave ovens, water heaters, etc.)
Lumber – maximum 4 ft. long pieces and bundled for ease of handling.
Carpet – maximum 4 ft. long – rolled and tied.
Furniture
All electronics will need to be brought to one location in which they will have a box truck and men to help load. The hours of the electronics drop off will be from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and the location will be 212 E. Fourth St. by the Water plant. Zeplin imes.
Electronics – computers, printers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, DVD players, etc.
Open paint cans if the paint is dry and the lid is off.
Other large items not normally taken during normal garbage collection.
Appliances with Freon – (refrigerators, freezers, and dehumidifiers) must be prepaid and tagged or they will not be picked up. Tags are available at Avilla Town Hall for $70.00 each.
Tires – Must be prepaid and tagged or they will not be picked up.
Is 1password safe to use. Tires 16” and under without rims will cost $10.00 each and $15.00 each with rims.
Tires 17” and larger without rims will cost $15.00 each and $20.00 with rims. Tractor tires are $20.00
Tags are available at Avilla Town Hall.
Tags for Freon appliances and tires must be paid for in advance and applied to each item. If the items are not tagged they will not be picked up.

HAZARDOUS WASTE AND OTHER RECYCLABLES:
From mid-April through mid-November, on Friday mornings from 8:00 to 12:00 noon residents can recycle the following items for a nominal fee at the Northeast Indiana Solid Waste Management District’s facility on State Road 4 east of Ashley:
Oil and all automotive fluids
Oil-based and latex paints
Aerosol cans
Stains
Thinner
Liquid and granular fertilizers
Household batteries
Various chemicals
Additional items that will be accepted any Friday morning include:
Vehicle batteries, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs, computers, televisions, and other electronic components.
Paperback and hardback books and used shoes can be recycled for free.
Newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans and plastic bottles can be dropped off at the recycling bins at the Water Department at 212 E. Fourth Street in Avilla.
