Expanding its presence in the growing entry-level electric car world, Chevrolet is dropping the Bolt EV’s price and adding a higher-riding Bolt EUV. Chevrolet’s addition to the Bolt family should help the sales folks at your local Chevy dealer capitalize on the growing crossover trend. Alongside a lower price and a new model, Chevy is also giving its Bolt EV a serious overhaul for 2022 to spark more attention. Oh yeah, and it’s the first Chevrolet to use the sophisticated Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system.

With crossovers continuing to dominate the sales charts, it only makes sense for the Chevy folks to throw the Bolt into the fray. As you would imagine and is often the case with compact crossovers, the Bolt EUV rides on the Bolt EVs bones. However, there are some notable changes: the Bolt EUV has a 2.9-inch longer wheelbase, 3.1-inches more rear legroom and 6.3-inches more inches in total length.

There’s still only one powertrain available for both the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, a single electric motor sending 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. That number shouldn’t be surprising for Bolt EV fans, because it’s a carryover from the todays model. So feeding that motor is a 65 kWh battery, though the range shrinks to 250 miles.

Charging might become easier for folks snagging a 2022 Bolt EV or EUV. Chevrolet is including a dual-level charging cable with the upcoming Bolt EUV and it can be optioned into your Bolt EV purchase. This new cable allows owners to plug into a standard 120-volt three-prong outlet and a 240-volt outlet to charge at the same 7.2 kilowatts of a level 2 charger. If that’s not good enough, Chevrolet says it will cover the standard installation of a level 2 charging system for eligible Bolt customers.

Chevrolet says the 2022 Bolt will start at $31,995, including destination fees. Anydesk free personal use. The larger Bolt EUV starts at $33,995.

Refreshed styling joins the lower cost. The refreshed Bolt EV packs a new front fascia, rear signature lighting and daytime running lights. The Bolt EUV, on the other hand, is more extreme. According to Chevrolet the external sheet metal isn’t interchangeable between the two Bolts. So effectively the platform-sharing Bolt EUV has a different look.

The styling and lower cost aren’t the only major overhauls. Cadillac’s Super Cruise is finally joining Bowtie-badged cars. Obviously not baked into the standard base price, the high-tech Super Cruise could give folks cross-shopping the Chevy Bolt with a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y that extra push to sway them into a Chevy. Super Cruise offers hands-free driving assistance on stretches of enabled road.
